Ueno Park Market

On our way to the Tokyo National Museum we stumbled upon a bustling open air market in Ueno Park, Tokyo. Artisans displayed beautiful handmade goods from all over Japan. Wandering the narrow stalls was a perfect introduction to the cultural arts we were about to see.

Masami Tanaguchi

We were especially drawn to the handmade style pottery by Masami Tanaguchi. His work stood out among the many hundreds of pieces for its light textural finishes and natural touches that helped give each bowl, cup, or vessel its unique characteristics.
